Conversion Of A Foreign Licence

The applicant must contact the registered Aircraft Training Organisation where he/she will be conducting your Check/training. The ATO will contact the SACAA on behalf of the applicant and apply for Verification of your foreign licence as well as a licence number.

 To get a license number so that you may write the SACAA online ATPL exams, the ATO will contact the examination department, (c/o Laureen (pronounced Lorraine), at the SACAA:

* A copy of your foreign license 

* A motivational letter stating that you need a South African license number so that you can write the exams for your foreign license conversion.

* Your full CV

* 2 x passport photos 

* At present, there is no fee for this.

SACAA will request Verification with Foreign Authorities

Verifying the Application with the Foreign Governing Body/CAA and this process may take

2 weeks -6 months depending on their response.

Requirements for Conversion of a Foreign Licence and Class/Type Ratings -VFR and IFR

a) Forms: CA61-01.13, Initial Skills test

CA61-01.0 form.

b) Copies

• Passport

• Valid Foreign Licence (Indicating Class/Type Ratings and Language Proficiency)

• Logbook Copies of the last 3 pages, 12 months summery preceding test, as below and (Incl. Endorsement of all Class/Type Ratings/Instrument Ratings)

(Electronic Logbooks must be initialled by applicant on each page)

*New Requirement – Summary of Hours Flown the last 12 Months …01/09/2019 – 30/09/2020 – Dates must be indicated as the last 12 months “From- To Date”)

c) Valid RSA Medical / Valid Foreign Medical

d) Letter of Motivation for Conversion and Requesting Conversion of Class/Type Ratings

e) Up-to-date Curriculum Vitae

g) Proof of the Following Examinations:

• Meteorology

• Flight Performance and Planning

• Air Law

• Operational Procedures (IR)

h) Letter of Request for Type/Class OR Language Proficiency Ratings to be transferred (If required)

i) Initial Fee for SACAA

• CPL Appropriate CAA Fee

• ATP Appropriate CAA Fee
